This site is dedicated to all the Allday, Alday, Audley & O'Day families around the world (We will add more surnames as Y-DNA tests prove connections). Using Y-DNA we already know the Allday and Audley lines in England are the same Y-DNA. As time goes on, more Allday/Alday men will join the Allday Y-DNA project on FamilytreeDNA.com and we will see a clearer picture of this dominate Y Haplogroup. And what I mean by dominate haplogroup is just that - dominate . Half of Europe came from our direct male haplogroup (92% of Wales) over a period of thousands of years. That means that our men were successful procreators with the ladies who were great mothers (we knew how to chose them, or better said, they knew how to chose us) as had a lot of babies and those babies lived and went on to have their own babies. Smart, aggressive, healthy males that protected their families and chose mothers who were good nurturers for the children.
In the mean time, we will teach what we know and revise as we learn otherwise.
Alday family surname. Join the Alday Y-DNA project at www.FamilyFreeDNA.com and connect with your Allday family all around the world. Y-DNA has proven a solid and unbroken direct line to Josiah Allday/Alday of Lunenburg Virginia from the early Colonial Virginia period. We are hoping to find some of Josiah's brother's (Seth Alday) descendents to take the Y-DNA test which would prove that Seth was Josiah's brother and Perrin Alday of Virginia as their father. Many of Seth's line moved west to Ohio in the early 1700s and most of Josiah's line moved to Georgia early on and then all across the South. If you are one of Seth's descendent's, please consider taking the Y-DNA test on FamilyTreeDNA.

Several Allday's in England have taken the Y-DNA test. Not surprisingly, we found out that the Audley family connects to the Allday family. Since early census testers weren't always good at spelling, we can easily see where phonetically Audly sounds very similar to Allday. Since the American Alldays/Aldays reportedly came from the London, England area over 400 years ago, we are hoping more Allday/Alday men from that area will take the Y-DNA test and jump the pond so to speak. The famous Alldays & Onions LTD business was based out of Birmingham, England and London, England. If a living descendant or descendent of a brother or uncle of this line of Alldays is living, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, take the Y-DNA test on FamilyTreeDNA.com. Now that is important history right there!

Alldays / Aldays / Aldags from Germany are of great interest to the Y-DNA Project. Alday is an Americanized version of the German Aldag. As it turns out an Allday male from the 1800's in Ohio stated on the United States census that his father immigrated from Germany. He could have been an Alday or an Aldag before comign over. Y-DNA would certainly prove this.

There are numerous Alday / Allday families found in Scotland. So far, none of the men are represented on FamilyTreeDNA. Since migrations often occured between England, Scotland and Ireland for hundreds and even thousands of years, it would be good to find these connections between the countries.

We had a surprise last year. A male with the last name Salles from Brazil matches our Allday / Alday Y-DNA. This connection could go back as far as the days when Europeans and Spaniards were exploring the various coasts over 400 years ago. Any Alldays / Aldays in Mexico, Central America, Peru or down the west coast of South America are of particular interest in putting the puzzle together.
There are Alday men in the country and also all along the west coast, Central American and Mexico. Santiago Manuel de Alday was considered one of the most important and influential Chilean Roman Catholic Bishops in Santiago, Chile of the 18th century. Alday was born in 1712 in Conception, Chile and in old age, died in Santiago. He was a bishop for over 30 years and very outspoken on polemics and moral issues. He traveled extensively and founded San Lazaro (1775) and founded many parishes across Chile such as Copiapó and Cuyo and in more distant areas, Paredones (1765), Combarbalá (1757), Pelarco (1787) and Renca (1764). Alday also organized a diocesan synod in 1763. And, Alday is accredited for owning one of the largest libraries during the colonial era of Chile, having amassed over 2,000 volumes which are preserved in the Museum of Carmen de Maipú. Because of Alday's extensive travels, it would be good to see some volunteer Y-DNA testers from these parts of Chile and other countries sucha as Brazil and Peru to see what turns up.

Peru and Brazil have some genetic history together. Since a Salles male from Brazil is hitting our Y-DNA, and since there are Alday men in Peru, it stands to reason we need some of those men to take the Y-DNA test.

There are Hispanic men who carry the last name Allday / Alday in Spain and the Basque County (autonomous community). It would be great if one or more would take the Y-DNA test and have Spain represented. The Basque County which is part of northern Spain had a Alday Basque noble family that originated in the town of Getxo, Basque County, Spain. This Alday coat of arms is the blue one shown on our home page. Alday is also a Spanish form of the Basque Aldai. A Spanish author named Untza Otaola Alday wrote a series of Spanish lanquage teaching aide books called Colloquial Spanish. Also, there was a famous Spanish footballer named Manuel Alday Marticorena who played for Real Madrid. If you are an Alday from Spain or the Basque Country, please take the Y-DNA test(Y-37 level at least) on www.FamilyTreeDNA.com and join the Allday/Alday Y-DNA project there as well.
There are Hispanic men who carry the last name Allday / Alday in Mexico etc. It would be great if one or more would take the Y-DNA test and have Mexico represented.
José Alday, better known as "EL POCHITO", is a pro MMA fighter out of Mexico and the 36th ranked Men's Bantamweight in the United States. He was one of the guys who grew of in the United States, wasn't a citizen, and was voluntarily deported back to Mexico where he struggled to adjust to the Mexican way of life and didn't even speak the lanquage well. Locals jokingly called him El Pochito which he didn't like at first, but it grew on him and in his life, looking for some direction, he joined a local gym and signed up for MMA and his success later would take him pro. He was and is successful and the moniker El Pochito stayed with him. Wouldn't it be great if José Alday or a male relative joined the Allday/Alday Y-DNA project?

There are Aldays / Alldays in France. Please consider taking the test and have your country represented. An entire family of musicians were from France and they were very popular late 1700s and early 1800s. Francios Alday and Paul were brothers - both French composers, conductors and violinists. Their father, born 1737 in France, was also a musician. Francios had four sons named Auguste, Philiert, Joseph and Francique - all professors of music. Unfortunately, the brochures for their symphonies many times were entitled "Alday Symphony" and each of the sons simply went by Alday fils on their publications, which makes it harder to attribute the correct music to the correct bother (or son).
John Alday was an English to French translator of semi-philosophical and classical works during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. One of the chief works he's known for translating is a couple of French works entitled "Theatrum Mundi, the Theatre or rule of the worlde." Joseph Ritson included John Alday among the English poets of the 16th century. Speaking and writing in French and English, there were a number of other French works accredited to John Alday (also spelled John Allday) from that time period, included in libraries and museums around the world. Some of his works were published in London, England and to this day, there are still a number of Allday / Alday men in and around London. Since he spoke French, and was hired to translate French, it stands to reason that he might have been French. If you are French and an Alday / Allday, please consider taking the Y-37 or Y-67 or Y-111 test on FamilyTreeDNA.
